MESSAGE FROM THE CSUCSA NATIONAL CHAIRPERSON TO THE CSUCSA YOUTH COMMISSION
Dear CSUCSA Youth Leadership and Members,
On behalf of the Civil Society Unmuted Coalition South Africa (CSUCSA), I extend my heartfelt best wishes as you commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the 1976 Youth Uprising.
Today marks a defining moment in the history of our nation—a day when brave young South Africans stood against injustice and oppression, demonstrating extraordinary courage in the pursuit of freedom, dignity, and quality education. Their sacrifices laid the foundation for the democratic South Africa we continue to build today.
As you gather under the theme “Finishing What Was Started,” may you draw inspiration from the fearless spirit of the Class of 1976. Their legacy calls upon us not only to remember but also to act by confronting the challenges facing young people today, including unemployment, inequality, gender-based violence, and limited opportunities. I commend the CSUCSA Youth Commission for carrying forward this historic mission through civic participation, community development, and active citizenship. Your leadership is a testament that the struggle for a just, inclusive, and prosperous South Africa continues in capable hands.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to Kagiso Trust for its valued partnership and unwavering support in making this important commemoration a reality. Your continued investment in youth development, civic participation, and nation-building strengthens our collective efforts to honour the legacy of 1976 while empowering a new generation of young leaders to shape South Africa's future.
May today's commemoration strengthen your resolve to lead with integrity, courage, and compassion, ensuring that the dreams of the youth of 1976 are fully realised for future generations.
I wish you a successful and impactful 50th Anniversary Commemoration.
Happy Youth Day!
CYNTHIA CHISHIMBA
